A RRSP is a valuable investment tool that allows you to reduce your taxable income and can be used for benefits, such as the Home Buyers’ and Lifelong Learning plans.
Opening your RRSP
Completing the RRSP Application Form
Registering for your RRSP by filling out and returning the RRSP application form is a requirement of membership.
Please download and print the form, then complete, sign, scan and send the form to Equity’s Membership department as a PDF. We are unable to accept a photo. You can use a free app like Adobe Scan to create PDF documents using the camera on your phone.
Please note: Digital signatures can only be accepted with an audit trail from programs such as DocuSign or Adobe Acrobat.
Tips
- Your Equity Member Number is the ‘Identification/Employee CAEA Number’
If you don’t remember your Equity Member Number, login to your myEquity account or contact membership@caea.com - Do not fill in Section 3 – RSP Spousal Contributor
If you would like to open a Spousal RSP, speak to Canada Life directly once your Equity RSP is opened and they can help you set this up. - Designate a beneficiary
It’s important to name a beneficiary within your RRSP itself — not just in your will.
If you live in Quebec, make sure to read the Quebec Residents information box at the bottom of the page. - Do not fill in Section 5 – Payroll Deduction Authorization
The amount deducted from each pay is determined by your Equity contracts. - To invest your contributions in the default Balanced Global fund, leave Section 6 – Your Investment Selection blank
If you wish to select a different investment selection, read the following section.
Choosing an Investment Option
By default, your contributions are invested in a Balanced Global fund. If you wish to select other investment options, Canada Life has resources available to help determine the right strategy for you:
