Equity is proud to announce the release of
The Member Guide to Creating a Community Agreement, a helpful guide to support artists in creating a safe and respectful workplace for everyone. Developed by Equity Council’s Safe and Respectful Task Force, using many of the principles introduced by ARCS (The Authentic and Radically Curious Support), the Guide details a process for establishing shared values for your community agreement, questions to consider, how to share and maintain your agreement, and other valuable resources you may want to consider.
“As we all continue working together to create safe spaces where we can do our best work, we hope this guide?created by members for members? will enrich the early days of rehearsals and deepen a sense of community in theatres for many years to come.”
Jane Heyman and Steven Sobolewski (co-chairs)
To celebrate the release of the Guide, Equity is interested in finding out what your community agreements look like! We invite you to share a fun snapshot of your community agreement (with permission of course) with us
@CdnActorsEquity. Whether it’s pinned to a corkboard, taped to the wall, or painted as a mural – we want to see your community agreement!
Equity would like to thank all of the members of the Safe and Respectful Task Force for their valuable contributions to the Guide: Jane Heyman and Steven Sobolewski (co-chairs), Deena Aziz, Karen Bassett, Maev Beaty, Jethelo Cabilete, Alexis Gordon, Omar Alex Khan, Alexandra Lainfiesta, Catriona Leger, Nora McLellan, Allan Teichman, and Jennifer Wigmore.
Available online, the Guide affirms Equity’s ongoing mandate to promote safe and respectful workplaces for everyone by providing valuable resources to artists. Other materials to check out from Equity’s Not in OUR Space! campaign include the new
Member Guide to Respectful Workplaces and revised
Equity Respectful Workplace Policy.
We encourage you to share any questions or comments about the Guide at
