I have been a member of CAEA since 1985. I have served on the Stage Management committee, and served three (non-consecutive) terms as the National Councillor for Dance. I have worked in all disciplines within the dance sector from Ballet & Contemporary to Tap and Krump.
Throughout any given year, I Production Stage-manage (and light) numerous dance festivals, companies, and projects by independent choreographers. What I know is - whether your dance is a classical, or culturally specific form, whether rooted in ritual, or spectacle, dancers all share common needs, and dance specific concerns.
It is my goal to form a strong Dance committee, with voices from all of the sectors - to answer the needs of dancers, and to create agreements that work, and serve the dance artists who use them. Even if you are an artist with your own company agreement - it is important that your voice be heard beyond your own studio walls.
There is one thing all forms and expressions through dance share - You are a dancer. You need to come together and make your presence in the association strong.
