Hello dear community. I’ve been fortunate to call Amiskwaciwâskahikan (Edmonton) my home for over 22 years. I moved here from Ontario, to attend the U of A’s BFA Acting program. I graduated in 2002 and by then felt a bond with this place. Our Northern Alberta community has provided me with beautiful opportunities to grow my theatre understanding, skills, and artistic voice, thanks to the support of many outstanding mentors and community stewards.
As an instructor now myself, I’m in the company of bright young enterprising artists who have questions about our industry, about CAEA, and whether it’s ‘worth it’ to join. I recall asking myself that same question, years ago. For me, it is, and has been, worth it.
But I know there are now many more pressures artists face in making theatre and sustaining a life in theatre. And Council can feel very far from our community. I’d like to work on bridging that gap. I’m interested in community outreach and conversations, hearing questions and concerns. I want to learn more about the needs of our community members and do my part so that artists here, across all generations, feel supported by and represented at Council.
