Hello friends. Recently things have changed. I’ve had had the opportunity to understudy, often, which can teach as much as it can take. This last year I swung a musical. I’ve noticed the extreme difference between what we did before, and what we’re asked to do now. We have huge responsibilities placed on us—sometimes, in the case of swinging, on people who have never had experience with those responsibilities before. Anyone who has understudied or swung since the pandemic knows—you are going on, and FREQUENTLY.
Management is juggling to accommodate this reality financially, our stage managers are working miracles to make rehearsal time productive, and the performers are often left carrying-the-can to produce results in extreme situations. This is why I’m interested in running for Council. I have worked regional theatres to the festivals, and loved every minute of it. Whether chopping wood to restock the fires at an outdoor show, or following a dresser’s orders through a quick-change I’ve never rehearsed, I know what it’s like in the trenches. I want to learn how the Equity mechanism works for us, and I want to be there for you.
Thank you for voting for me.
