This Toronto performance earned 24 year old John Colicos the best actor award in the Dominion Drama Festival in 1951. Technically an amateur company, the UADC (founded in 1919) has given opportunities to many performers, directors and stage managers who went on to great prominence. Ted Follows has been an active actor/director for more than 50 years; Ron Hartmann a full stage and film career; Herbert Whittaker, director/ designer/ critic, is a well known theatrical author and historian. Repertoire tends to the non-traditional, including several Canadian premieres.
